Memory loss can happen to everyone, regardless of his or her age. You might be 30 years old but your memory capacity is only as good as your grandmother’s. If this is happening to you, then something must be terribly wrong. The only problem is that once you are hit by memory loss, it is pretty tough for you to reverse the entire process. When it hits you, then it hits you for good. Some said that memory loss has got nothing to do with your brain. Some people said that memory loss happens because you are not using your brain enough. Are these statements true? We shall reveal to you the relationship between memory loss and the brain.

Everyone hates the confusion caused when talking to a person with memory loss, particularly short-term memory loss. As much as you hate it, a person with short-term memory loss will find difficulties remembering what was being said within minutes. Your neighbor came over one day and rant t you about the good soccer game with Manchester leading. You nod with glee at this expected goal. A few minutes later you paused, and innocently asked your neighbor “So, who won?”

Up till today, experts have yet to learn the true cause of memory loss. However they believe that memory lapses such, as Alzheimer’s are just the cause of normal wear and tear that happens as you age. Memory lapses due to old age cannot be stopped, but they can definitely be slowed down. As aforementioned, a person suffering from memory loss can face severe inconvenience and embarrassment, without a doubt.

Some have speculated that memory loss happens when we lose brain cells as we age or when the brain cells are having difficulties communicating with each other effectively. Either way, none of these have been proven true.

However, it was discovered that mental congestion could be one of the causes leading to early memory loss. Mental congestion occurs when one practices multi tasking and information overload. The information is unable to get it in first place. This would mean that you would have a hard time remembering information and things a like. What you can do instead is learn to not to rely on your memory and brain to remember when is the next meeting, and where are you suppose to meet your clients. The best way is of course to use the ever-trendy paper-and-pen method and jot all these information down for your future reference.

There are ways whereby you can improve your memory capability by practicing good habits, starting from now. Good habits would include having a balanced healthy diet that is topped with regular exercises. This might seem to you to be another diet guide, but the reality is that eating the proper kind of food will help to boost your memory power. Foods like broccoli, spinach and blueberries will help you with this.

All in all, our memory and how good we are able to retain information depends on a lot of factors. The complexity of the brain restricts us from finding the true relationship of the memory and the brain. However, what is more important is the ability to keep up a good memory and use simple techniques to prevent memory loss in the future.

Memory loss can occur to anyone. You can definitely do surgeries and touch ups to make you look 20 years younger. Unfortunately, this is not the case for your memory. If you are unable to take good care of your memory, then chances are you will suffer from memory loss at a very young age. For those folks who are in their golden years, suffering from memory loss is definitely not a surprise. As the matter of fact, everyone will succumb to it no matter how embarrassing or irritating it might be. However, when a young friend said that she is suffering from memory loss, you can definitely imagine the shock and horror in everyone’s face. So to prevent yourself from causing any shock and horror to anyone and check out these top 3 reason for memory loss and see how you can avoid them.

#1 Being inactive

When you are not an active person, then chances are you are going to be mentally weak too. This hence pose as a challenge for you as now you will find it harder to process information fast. As the matter of fact, if you keep on with this unhealthy habit, then chances are you are going to suffer from memory loss at a very young age. What you can do is to practice some mind exercises that involves some kind of brainstorming and thinking along the way. You can also make your memory work by trying out new things for example, learning a new instrument or learning a new language.

#2 Not giving enough room for thinking

Just like when you carry weights consistently, you will find that your body gets toned up over time. The similar analogy applies to the brain. When the brain is able to do some work, it gets worked up and healthy. This is why students are encouraged to do lots of brainstorming session so as to make their brains work and hence strengthening the power of the memory.

#3 Diet

Some people just ignore the importance of their diet and base their diet on fried and high in cholesterol foods. An unhealthy and unbalanced diet will just make your mind and body suffer. A good diet will allow good circulation in the body hence, allowing the memory to register past and present information quickly. At the same time, do remember to include a good dosage of exercises to top up with all the dieting. Exercising will help to keep the memory fresh and at the same time rejuvenating the body. Also, do note of some of the healthy foods like blueberries, spinach and broccoli, that can help to save you and your memory.

These are just some of the causes of memory loss. Up till today, experts are still unable to tell exactly what is the main reason leading to memory loss. Some have speculated that the amount of brain cells in our brain decrease over time and hence affecting the ability of our brain to store and send out information. Others said that the brain cells are not communicating effectively, hence causing us to have problems when retrieving memories from the past. The brain is a complex by itself, as such; it makes it almost impossible to find the true cause of memory loss.

What matters more is that you are able to follow the right set of guide to prevent yourself from suffering from memory loss. Have a memorable day ahead!

Memory loss is definitely one of the common illnesses suffered when one reaches old age. As such, it is definitely not a surprise when your grandmother is suffering from memory lapses due to Alzheimer’s disease. However, what happens if YOU are the one who is suffering from memory loss. Imagine the shock and horror in your friends when they know that their 35-year-old friend is suffering from a disease that is usually suffered by their grandmothers. So, to avoid all confusion and severe embarrassment, learn these 4 easy ways to manage sudden memory loss.

Memory loss can occur to anyone, regardless of his or her age. The only difference is that memory loss that occurred to the older generation are caused by the wear and tear as you head into your golden years.

#1 Learn some easy memorizing techniques

If you are having a hard time remembering the list of things in your grocery list, which you left at home, then learn to use easy memorizing techniques. Do not get too worried when you cannot remember the things from the list. This does not confirm that you are suffering from sudden memory loss. It is just that you used the wrong techniques to memorize your grocery list. The easiest method to memorize long lists is to use images and link them together to form a mini film. For example if you are given a list of items – banana, flowers, and cat, try to gather all these images to form an image of a cat dressed in flowers, eating a banana. See, it makes memorizing far much more easily.

#2 Healthy diet

Who might have guessed that the key to eliminating sudden memory loss is to eat a healthy and balanced diet? The main thing about this is that you have got to be constant with your dieting efforts. This might sound nothing more like a diet guidebook to you, but in reality, these healthy dieting tips can really help you recover from severe memory loss. Also, do note that food like blueberries, spinach and broccoli are extremely good for your memory.

#3 Mind games

Mind games are not for kids only of course. Even mature adults like you and me are entitled to play mind games. Mind games are especially good if you are looking for a fun way to give your memory a boost. Puzzles and such are also ideal as it provides immense amount of thinking and some strategizing too. This helps to work the brain and hence allowing it to get used to the ability to think and process information fast.

#4 Organize

Keeping your things neat and tidy will definitely help you tones. You might not be suffering from severe memory loss but because of the mess and clutter, you feel that your mind is not working good enough to retrieve information like where did you place your spectacles and such. Too much clutter also confuses the brain and hence your memory would not work as well when you see things strewn over the place at all times.

Do try on these tips and see drastic improvement with your memory. Good luck!

Who might have guessed it that memory loss can happen to anyone, regardless of his or her age. You might only be 35 years old but your memory capacity is no better than that of a 60 year old. Does the thought of losing all your precious memories scare the crap out of you? Then learn these 4 common causes of memory loss and how you can prevent yourself from doing the same mistakes and save yourself from the horror of losing your memory.

#1 Diet

Some people just ignore the importance of their diet and base their diet on chips, chips and more chips!

#2 Lack of activity

When you are not particularly an active person, then chances are you are going to be mentally weak too.

#3 Lack of thinking

Thinking is not a very hard process. Everyone can think, but it is just that some might lack the ability to think effectively. Just like when you carry weights consistently, you will find that your body gets toned up over time. The similar analogy applies to the brain. When the brain is able to do some work, it gets worked up and healthy. This is why students are encouraged to do lots of brainstorming session so as to make their brain work and hence strengthening the power of the memory.

#4 Old age

Memory loss usually happens due to old age. The true scientific explanation regarding old age memory loss is not known but some have speculated that the brain cells decrease over time and hence effecting these older generations as they continue to age. Others said that our brain cells are not communicating very well and hence memory and other information cannot be stored effectively. Be it short term memory loss or Alzheimer’s disease, suffering from memory loss can be heartbreaking news for some.

It is time for you to use this as a guide and don’t let the memory loss stop you; instead it is YOU who should stop the memory loss.

Memory loss is not new to use in many ways but not many people know the alarming rate at which the number of people suffering from memory loss related diseases is increasing at! Such diseases include, Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or also known as senile dementia and amnesia. Though they may seem little, but in fact, these three main diseases themselves can branch out into numerous different kinds of different classifications, such as dementia can be categorized into, senile dementia, vascular dementia, chronic or reversible dementia. In this article, we would seek to identify some more common kinds of memory loss diseases.

Dementia

Dementia can cause our brain to degrade and loss its memory causing a person to find a simple task almost impossible to accomplish. Personality changes and behavior are also common as people with dementia are more prone to being irritated and easily get aggressive. Vascular dementia which represents the alterations of the blood vessels, when it becomes severe, can result in stroke or sudden memory loss. While the latter does not occur all the time, however, as vascular dementia develops overtime, memory loss would be inevitable. Tobacco is also another contributor to vascular dementia. Tobacco causes blood flow to the brain to be slowed down and thus increasing overall blood pressure and the chances of getting a stroke, which eventually would lead to vascular dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease, or also known as senile dementia, is a common condition that is often associated with the aged. It is also one of the most common causes of memory loss and can be categorized into various degrees of memory loss, which depends on the stage the disease is in. At the first few stages, memory loss is already evident as a person would find themselves forgetting names and at later stages, patients would start forgetting family members altogether! Alzheimer’s is related to age as it often occur to the people above 60 years of age.

Amnesia

Amnesia though not really termed as a disease by itself, is often associated with other memory loss diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Knowing the symptoms and signs of amnesia can no doubt help us identify if we may be suffering from any other kind of memory loss diseases. Amnesia can come in the form of forgetfulness or memory lapses, where you cannot remember the conversation you just had or you forgot what you wanted to do when you enter your room. More severe cases of amnesia may cause a person’s mind to totally erase their personality or their identity, causing them to forget who they are. This results in personality changes for the worse and in most cases, such people drop into low-self esteem and long term depression due to their sickness.

Memory loss is as scary as it sounds but there are ways to prevent it from happening to you. Continue to search for more information on how to protect yourself from being a victim of memory loss, either from your doctors or from medical books in the library.

Forgetting where you placed your car keys; unable to recall the name of the person who just introduced himself to you; how about, not being able to remember your anniversary day? Are these familiar questions that you ask yourself most of the time? Memory loss need not be as serious as forgetting everyone you know, but it can no doubt escalate into that or even into worse cases. Memory loss can come from many causes including old age, medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease or Dementia, excessive alcoholism and even from lack of brain activity!

Excessive Alcoholism
Excessive consumption of alcohol can lead to irreparable nerve damage as it is scientifically known that alcohol destroys our nerves. Especially when our brain is reliant on these nerves to keep the neuron-connections which help us remember things. Thus, it is important to keep your alcohol intake at a moderate level.

Medical Conditions

Dementia
Dementia comes in two forms, chronic or reversible; with the former being the more worrisome kind of dementia. In any case, dementia would result in the degradation of one’s mental functioning ability with special emphasis on the memory area, which may result in making a once simple task to seem like an impossible one. Dementia can also lead to behavioral changes, causing one to become more aggressive, paranoid or even afraid. However, Dementia can be identified through blood tests and can be kept in check if treated properly.

Amnesia
Amnesia is quite different from normal memory loss as it is more associated with total loss of memory. It happens normally with age related illnesses and has a more lasting impact as compared to short term memory loss. People suffering from amnesia will for what just happened, and would insist that it never happened as they have lost the memory of it ever happening. Amnesia can also result from stress, where traumatic experiences may cause one to lock away certain memories they do not wish to remember. In more severe forms of amnesia, when age-related diseases afflict a main portion of the brain, it can cause a person to erase his own personality and identity unknowingly. It may cause depression and they would become anti-social or easily irritable and suffer from frequent mood swings.
Side-Effect of Drugs
In certain cases of memory loss, the root cause of it comes from the usage of certain kind of drugs or medication. For example, Statin drugs used to treat people with high cholesterol problems have been proven scientifically to cause retrograde memory loss. In other less serious cases, patients using Statin drugs keep their memory but are unable to formulate new memory.
Memories are what are left of our past, and to the elderly these little snippets of the past may mean the whole world to them and they would mean the same thing to you in the future. Now that you know what some of the causes of memory loss are, take actions to improve your memory and live a healthy lifestyle to keep your memories preserved!

Sue woke up in horror to find a stranger sleeping next to her and shouted, “Who are you?!” Sue is a 77 year old grandmother who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and the man next to her is her husband of 57 years, one who has loved her all his life and slept beside her ever since they were married.

Alzheimer’s disease, also known as senile dementia, is named after Alois Alzheimer (164-1915). People diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease often lose their memory overtime and it is the worse ever form of memory loss. People who are affected by it can remember things that happen decades ago but cannot remember what they just ate for lunch!

Famous individuals who are known to be suffering from Alzheimer’s include late US president Ronald Reagan. When the disease approaches its later stages, patients even become oblivious to whom their relatives of family are. This can cause them to drop into depression and requires a huge change on their family’s part to accommodate the sudden change in behavior and personality of the patient. Unfortunately, it has also been found out that Alzheimer’s disease is hereditary also.

Presently, there has yet to be a cure to be found for Alzheimer’s however all around the globe, pharmaceutical hospitals are all trying to formulate out the most effective medication to deal with this disease. However, with our present technology, they can only ensure that the medication is effective when used in the early stages of the disease.
As we grow old, memory loss is almost an integral part of our lives as it is normal for people to become forgetful as the grow older, however only a few are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Also, even though normal memory improving techniques like mind stimulating games have no known effect to Alzheimer’s. it has the best chance in staving off the disease before you crumble to it. Furthermore, the earlier you start such memory training, the higher your chances of maintaining your mental fitness. Even so, our brain cells are irreplaceable after they perish and thus with almost everyone born with the same number of brain cells, as we age, more of these cells die off as part of the growing process, thus our mental ability get weaker as we grow older.
Memory loss and aging are very much linked together with each other as memory loss will catch up with us once we reach a certain age.

Loss of memory can come from many causes; however it can also come in many ways too. Memory loss can both be either gradual or unexpected or sometimes in an instant. Nonetheless, the causes for sudden memory loss are many, firstly, it may have been induced by a blow to the head or injury dealt to the head. It is thus essential to protect our heads when doing strenuous activity that may involve head injuries. Also, another way to avoid sudden loss of memory through injuries to the head, we can practice putting on helmets when riding a motorcycle or even keeping the seatbelt fastened when traveling in a car.

Other cases of sudden loss of memory may appear as a side effect from drugs like Statin drugs. Statin drugs are used to maintain cholesterol levels at a healthy level for people suffering from high cholesterol. However, from scientific research, there was speculation that retrograde memory loss may be associated with the same drug. Thus, in most cases, doctors advise their high cholesterol patients to follow a certain diet instead of popping pills to alleviate their high cholesterol problems to reduce the side-effects problems they may face.

Factors that can attack a person anytime or without warning and can still cause sudden loss of memory are strokes which are using caused due to high blood pressure or clogged arteries that obstruct blood flow. Smoking can cause a person to accumulate tobacco which increases the risk of stroke as it slows down blood flow to the brain which increasing blood pressure! Not just smoking of tobacco, but using or ingesting other products with tobacco content can also have the same result.

Brain infections are also another cause of sudden loss of memory. The inflammation of the membrane surrounding the brain or also known as Meningitis and other chronic diseases and health issues that are recurrent also can cause sudden loss of memory.

Depending on what are the causes of memory loss, it would determine whether that memory is truly lost forever or not. However, this can be affected by a lot of things thus we cannot be sure that if we lose our memory, we can gain it back again. The surest way of keeping our memory is to prevent ourselves from losing it by taking actions to strengthen our memory and our minds.

Memory can be classified into short term or long term memory, however can the same be done for memory loss? Short term memory loss as well as long term memory loss in the end both result from similar causes as both have to do with a decline in our memory power. In this article, we would look into some of the causes of short term memory loss, or rather, what are some causes for memory loss.

Alcoholism

Excessive drinking of alcohol can cause one to have irreparable damage done to their nerves as it has been proven that alcohol can destroy nerve tissue. Without these nerve tissues, our brain would have reduced mental capacity as it required these nerves to create the neuron connections that are extremely essential for the preservation of our memory. As such, it is of utmost importance that we keep our alcohol in check to protect our minds from unnecessary damage.
Medical Conditions

Dementia

Dementia can come in the form of chronic or reversible dementia where chronic dementia is the more terrible kind of dementia. In both scenarios, dementia will cause a person’s mental functioning ability to degrade severely and cause a person to lose skills to even do simple tasks such as talking normally. Dementia also cause behavioral changes in a person, that makes them more aggressive than before or can make them extremely paranoid or terrified. Unfortunately, dementia can only be identified through blood tests and have no cure, but when treated properly, it can be kept in check at a not so worrisome condition.

Amnesia

Not quite the same as memory loss, amnesia is often associated with total loss of memory, which often happens when we age. Going old causes us to loss much of our memory prowess and when illnesses and diseases set in; it would have a more long lasting effect as compared to short term memory loss. In milder cases, people who suffer amnesia would forget something for now, but remember it at a later time, be it hours or days but in severe cases, they totally forget about things altogether. Also severe cases of amnesia have been known to totally erase personalities and identities of a person with them not even knowing it.

Side-Effect of Drugs

Use of certain drugs also has adverse effects on our memory. Especially the use of Statin drugs, which are widely used today to control our cholesterol level, can cause retrograde memory loss.
Memory loss either short or long term have their serious implications as memories are something that we can never find again when they are lost. Memories are like words spoken, kept and hidden, or given and lost forever.

Various names for memory loss are amnesia and dementia. One of our biggest fears as we age is losing our mental facilities, and how to deal with family members who are experiencing such memory loss. Short term memory loss can be triggered by stroke, circulation, Alzheimer’s as well as poor conductivity in the brain. However, take heart that memory loss is temporary and can be improved or avoided.

What is Short Term Memory?
Short-term memory refers to memories which last for a few minutes, and have gone through some amount of processing by the brain. It is usually of limited capacity, and absorbing new information causes the older information to be “forgotten”. Trying to communicate with those who have short term memory loss is frustrating.

Avoiding Short Term Memory Loss

1. Items can be maintained indefinitely in short-term memory by rehearsal: e.g. by repeating the information over and over again.

2. Repetition may also increase the probability that items in short-term memory will enter permanent storage in long-term memory.

3. Mental and physical exercises, your diet and nutritional supplements can help in avoiding short term memory loss.

4. Your body needs to have sufficient sleep in order to create links and connections in your memory. Hence, a minimum of 8 hours of sleep a day is recommended.

5. Your vision is an incredible resource for boosting your memory, with approximately 40% of the brain devoted to it. This is more than any other function of the brain!

6. Visit your doctor for regular blood tests, as they are indicators as to possible ailments and allows for your doctor to provide a cure through medications.

7. When your brain is deprived of the blood it needs, your memory health will be adversely affected. Cut down on the number of triglycerides and cholesterol in your blood, as these act as blockers.

8. In order to maintain the health of your mind, your brain needs nutrients such as folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12. These support the neurotransmitters in your brain that allows you to pass on signals and information to where they should be.

These are 8 simply tips to avoiding short term memory loss. Do keep in mind that although aging affects memory loss, other factors such as health issues, alcohol and drug usage, smoking, and environmental toxins play an important part as well.
